It is perhaps worth repeating that the main purpose of packaging food at home is to prevent food waste, which has the potential to cause significant damage to our global ecosystem. Not only does food production use a significant amount of fertile land, it also produces a significant amount of CO2.
At the same time, it is recognised that food packaging is a problem in its own right, as it is linked to the wider issue of plastic pollution. As the causes of littering are many and varied, including open landfill sites and negligent consumers, it may be that recyclable packaging is not the optimal solution to prevent this.
