End of life: closing the loop for household food packaging
The first Cofresco Forum Pit Stop took an in-depth look at this topic. For three hours, experts provided insights into the various aspects and implications of the end-of-life concept. And they invited all participants to discuss the different ideas and currently available ways to implement the end-of-life concept for household food packaging.
Questions to be discussed included:
What are the end-of-life options? Where are the advantages of one or the other option? What does this mean for the choice of materials terms of the circular economy? Which recycling processes are most suitable? How can recycling be further optimised? When does biodegradability make ecological sense? Are there already suitable materials for such applications? What are the future challenges, environmental benefits, and successful strategies for substituting fossil carbon with biomass, direct CO2 use and recycling?
There was much to discuss, although the benefits of end-of-life concepts are undeniable: the avoidance of waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
